Meet the Faculty
Established in 2016, the mission of the non-partisan Menard Center for Constitutional Studies (MCCS) is to promote research, education, and community outreach on matters related to the United States Constitution and the Wisconsin Constitution. The Political Research Institute is a non-partisan organization dedicated to connecting local governments, non-profit organizations, and other groups to experts in political science and law.
Our recent projects have included survey work for the cities of Altoona, Chippewa Falls, Marshfield, and Waupaca; educational work through the Eau Claire Chamber of Commerce; and survey consulting or university faculty. Contact our director petersgd@uwec.edu for more information.

Blugold Stories
Ever since he was 5 years old, Sgt. Cliff Hayes had his sights set for the military. Soon after joining the Wisconsin Army National Guard, Hayes enrolled at UW-Eau Claire to pursue a career in criminal justice. Being the first in his family to go to college, he needed some guidance on understanding his roles and duties as a veteran and full-time student. He turned to the Veterans Center at UW-Eau Claire and received resources and support to guide his educational needs.
It's kind of hard to capture what the criminal justice system is like unless you're seeing it and you're involved in it. And I've now been in two internships and a research project. I don't think I would have learned as much as what I have learned at UW-Eau Claire anywhere else.
My time here has 100% prepared me for anything that I would ever want to do after college. I can't stress enough the amount of opportunities that you can get here at UW-Eau Claire — it's so much more than you could get anywhere else.
Being in the foster care system growing up, Taz Smith became familiar with the courtroom at a young age. Now, a criminal justice major and an intern for a local judge, Taz learns about real court cases and analyzes them from multiple perspectives.
